2. What exactly goes into this bin?
Dirt and other things. (At 1st he said "world coins" but then quickly moved on.)

Hmm.. according to the company, this internal bin is called a "dust box".

He also said any kind of coin that ends up in this "dust box" is not intentional, and only done by error.

I found a lead on another forum that said something along the lines of " I once spoke to the coinstar service tech, he said he finds 1-2 morgan or peace dollars per month in each machine."

Another lead said a CS tech said (again typed in my own words) "Only a small percentage of silver gets rejected to the outside bin, most of it goes into the internal bin".
